Summary
A Merchandise Assistant supports the buyer in managing product inventory, ensuring the right products are available for sale, and assisting with day-to-day operations.
Responsibilities
-
Maintain appointment calendars (in buyer’s absence)
-
Answer telephone calls; take messages and return calls in buyer’s absence
-
Prepare store memos
-
Return samples to vendors/ companies
-
Enter purchase order information into computer system
-
Assign SKU# to all styles
-
Communicate with stores and vendors on defective merchandise to be returned
-
Print out weekly buying reports
-
Email information to stores and vendors
-
Distribute mail and reports
-
Special letters
-
Compile all weekly and monthly inventories
-
Set up forms
-
Approve transfers
-
Cooperate with management and other buying staff associates

Perform other duties as assigned by buyer or upper management
Qualifications
-
Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills
-
Strong attention to detail with a customer-first approach

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
-
Comfortable with technology and the ability to learn new programs and platforms
-
Ability to work constructively in a team environment where brainstorming and collaboration are standard

Must enjoy working in a fast-paced, multi-processing environment

Must have adequate vision, speech, hearing, and physical ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations

Must be able to sit for extended periods of time and lift, push, pull and carry at least 20 lbs.
Required Experience
-
Computer skills Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.); experience with office equipment; phone etiquette and communication skills.
Required Education
-
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
